Integrating Leica SpiderQC with Spider Business Center / X-pos Setup guide

Introduction

With SBC/X-pos v. 7.3, we allow the integration of Leica SpiderQC in Leica’s GNSS Web applications.

Such integration allows users to easily access information about the quality of files contained in the X-pos data repository (hence, about the X-pos sites overall status) and visualize it in SBC.

This page summarizes the steps to be followed to activate the Automatic Quality Check of X-pos files and to make its output available in SBC, together with - if desired - the plots of X-pos sites coordinates in real time (Connect… NMEA/Spider RT Positioning) or using GNSS Spider PP Positioning Products (Connect... Spider PP Positioning), as well as the so-called NOVA (Network Online Visualization of Accuracy) maps, plotting the overall accuracy of the network in terms of global residual error (RMS), ionosphere and troposphere.

Software requirements

In order to configure the Quality Check of X-pos files and its output access via SBC, the following software products have to be installed:

Please note that:

Once the above-mentioned software products are all successfully installed, the following steps have to be followed.

Setup of the Automatic RINEX Quality Check on Leica SpiderQC

Open the Leica SpiderQC GUI.

Automate > Edit Sites

Click on the new button “From X-pos” to import sites from the X-pos database:

QC_Edit_Sites.png

QC_Edit_Sites_Filled.png

(The maximum allowed number of active sites depends on the license options purchased.)

Please note that this functionality serves as a “one-time-import”, so that any future change in the X-pos sites will not be automatically reflected in Leica SpiderQC. For example, if a site is added or removed from the X-pos database, or if any configuration change takes place, the import from X-pos must be repeated in order to have the site information updated on Leica SpiderQC as well.

Edit > Settings

Set the following parameters to enable the automatic RINEX Quality Check and to display its results in dedicated web pages:

QC_Edit_Settings_Resume_Automatic_Process.png

(Please note that the QC Output path, which will be used when Leica SpiderQC is used as a normal desktop application, should be a local file location where user has write privileges.)

Enable “Resume automatic processing on program startup”.

Optionally, enable “Store individual QC report files”. This will store the corresponding files to the X-pos repository, when operating Leica SpiderQC in “Integrated Mode” with X-pos, and into the “QC Output Path” otherwise. Note that the “QC Output path”, which will be used when Leica SpiderQC is used as a normal desktop application, should be a local file location where user has “write” privileges.

QC_Edit_Settings_Create_Web_Page.png

Enable “Create web page”.

Configure the Network Server to which Leica SpiderQC needs to connect in order to provide the so-called NOVA (Network Online Visualization of Accuracy) maps:

(OPTIONAL) Settings for the network quality plots in Leica SpiderQC

In order to obtain information about coordinate displacements of sites, or about the further quality indicators of the network, it is possible to set the related parameters in the Edit > Settings > Connections sub-menus of Leica SpiderQC. This is not mandatory, and the type of plots to be visualized is customizable.

For example:

QC_Edit_Settings_Connections.png

These options can be activated or deactivated according to the desired output.

Other customizable preferences regarding the plots to be displayed and the supported languages can be set in the Web Settings section.

For example:

Exit from Leica SpiderQC Desktop

Close Leica SpiderQC GUI once all parameters are set according to the desired output.

X-pos will automatically launch Leica SpiderQC in background, as well as its Automatic Processing, after following the instructions in the following paragraphs.

X-pos configuration on SBC for the integration of Leica SpiderQC

Once Leica X-pos and Leica SBC v7.3 or higher are installed, it is possible to configure the X-pos service to automatically start Leica SpiderQC v7.3 or higher in the background: in this way it is possible to have the quality information about the X-pos sites available in Leica SBC.

Admin Portal > Settings > X-pos: flag the Enable “Leica SpiderQC integration” checkbox:

QC_SBC_GUI_ENABLE_QC.png

and Save.

QC_SBC_GUI_ENABLED.png

If the integration is successful, a status message is shown “Leica SpiderQC is running.”, and a new folder called “uniform” will be created in the X-pos data repository, containing the output of Leica SpiderQC analysis.

There are situations when the Spider X-pos and SpiderQC integration is not successful, and the following events might occur:

Event Action
Leica SpiderQC integration not enabled. Enable the Leica SpiderQC integration to check the quality of the files contained in the X-pos data repository.
Leica SpiderQC not found on the X-pos machine. Install the latest released version of Leica SpiderQC on the Spider X-pos machine.
Leica SpiderQC installed on the X-pos machine not compatible with X-pos (Installed Version: {0}). Install the latest released version of Leica SpiderQC on the Spider X-pos machine.
Another Leica SpiderQC instance is running on the system, X-pos cannot start Leica SpiderQC. To be integrated with Leica Spider X-pos, Leica SpiderQC needs to run as a service.
Starting of Leica SpiderQC failed unexpectedly, X-pos will attempt a restart soon. Leica SpiderQC could not be started. Reinstall Leica SpiderQC. If the issue persists, proceed with investigation via Support channel.
Leica SpiderQC exited unexpectedly X-pos will attempt a restart soon. Leica SpiderQC application has crashed. Proceed with investigation via Support channel.
Leica SpiderQC exited unexpectedly. The maximum number of crashes for today is reached. Leica SpiderQC application has crashed more than 5 times and cannot be started as a service anymore for integration with Leica Spider X-pos. Proceed with investigation via Support channel.
Leica SpiderQC is running. The Leica SpiderQC integration with Leica Spider X-pos is successful.
SpiderQC will be disabled, due to incompatibility with Cloud Storage Storage. SpiderQC is disabled when S3 or Azure Compatible Storage is chosen as X-pos Data Repository. No action is needed.

IMPORTANT: In order to have the quality information available in the uniform folder, it is not necessary to flag the “Quality Control Report” checkbox during the configuration of the X-pos file product on GNSS Spider’s Site Server.

SBC configuration (to display the quality check output)

In order to make the QC output available via SBC, Administrator needs to configure customized Menu items pointing to the html contents produced by Leica SpiderQC.

This can be done via the Administrator portal of SBC, using the Settings > Menu page to configure new customized menu entries.

In the URL field of the menu item, the following structure should be adopted to point to a specific html content:

//computer name/Xpos/API/qualityChecks/files/web/YY/xxxxxx.htm

Where:

- PC NAME is the “public X-pos hostname” as it is configured in Settings > System > Infrastructure > Public hostname of X-pos Server;

- YY is the language. In Leica SpiderQC, four options are available at Edit > Settings > Web Settings > Languages: CN, DE, EN, FR. Web pages will be available only in the languages which were previously activated in the Leica SpiderQC settings;

- xxxxxx.htm is the specific html file Administrator wants to provide.

As an example:

QC_Edit_Sites_Filled.png

Following htmls are recommended to provide a basic set of information:

- //computer name/Xpos/API/qualityChecks/files/web/EN/index.htm: provides the overall station quality information in a table, from which the viewer can navigate to specific sites; language is English:

QC_STATION_QUALITY_SUMMARY.png

- //computer name/Xpos/API/qualityChecks/files/web/EN/global_rms.htm: provides the global residual error for the whole network; language is English:

QC_GLOBAL_RMS.png

- //computer name/Xpos/API/qualityChecks/files/web/EN/index_network_rtk.htm: provides NOVA Maps; language is English; drop-down menu available in the NOVA Maps page allows to choose among Global RMS, Ionosphere and Troposphere:

QC_NETWORK_ONLINE_VISUALISATION.png

Further customization is of course possible pointing to different htmls among the ones provided by the Automatic Processing of Leica SpiderQC. While configuring the customized menu entry, Administrators of SBC can decide to which privileges the QC outputs will be made available.
